Hello friends and followers! I have some exciting news to share in regards to my fundraising efforts for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. As of right now our total donation is just a hair under $100!! We’re running down to the wire with the deadline on Dec 25th, but it’s not too late yet. If you’ve been thinking about it now is the time to pick up a book or two. 100% of the proceeds from our book sales will go directly to the AFSP.
Join me along with Tim Baughman, Eve Jacob, Tabitha, Sounds Nerdy, and our friends broadcasting the podcast We Were (Kind of) A Big Deal in College .
We’ll focus on Eve today.
Eve is an independent author publishing her first work The Shadows under the pen name of Jacob Crawford. She co authored the book with her mom! How awesome is that?! I haven’t had time to sit down and finish it, but I did have the opportunity to see one of the first drafts as a beta reader. I loved what I saw, and have it at the top of my TBR stack. As soon as I get some free time I’m dying to finish it.
Now I’ll let Eve speak for herself:
I was born in raised in Las Vegas, which is where the book is set. Other than it just being easy to write about your home town, and Vegas being an interesting place to set just about anything, I wanted to explore what it’s like to actually live here–almost all media that involves Las Vegas makes a spectacle of it, and I wanted to show that for those of us who actually grow up/live here, it’s really not all that wild or outrageous.
When it comes to why I write and what I hope to accomplish, I just want to tell stories that I wanted/needed when I was a kid (or even now), because if I want or need it, then I figure someone else likely does, too. So you’ll see a lot of things that are important to me in the books–intelligence, close families, close friendships, various forms of love and support, facing challenges, finding inner strength, dealing with trauma, mental health, and of course, cool battles and exciting action!
There’s also a fair amount of science and research backing even the most fantastical elements of the story, because I love science.
I joined the fund raising efforts because, well, Tim asked me and I’m always down to support a friend and a good cause. But I was really happy when I saw who we would be supporting; I’ve watched many friends struggle with suicidal thoughts, and helped them as best as I could. I’ve also, sadly, known several people who have died by suicide over the years, and that kind of loss/pain is a different from any other because it really hits you uniquely. The aftermath is as terrible for those left behind as everything that led up to it is for the person struggling with it, and I’d just like to contribute to saving as many people from this pain on all sides as we can.

she’s also pledged 100% of her proceeds now through December 25th toward our collective donation! Check it out!
