A HUGE thank you goes out to Books&Brews Carmel for hosting my latest book signing this past Tuesday.
Over all the event was a success. I sold some books, which was nice, and I had a great time meeting people while participating in the weekly Trivia Night. We started a lot of good conversations about A Voice For The Innocent and that was really the most important part of the evening. I’m not sure the exact dollar amount we raised since I’m still waiting to receive Books&Brews’ portion, but I know it was a fairly sizable amount all things considered.
The weather took a turn for the worst on us at precisely 5:00pm one hour before the event was scheduled to begin. Thankfully I had a few friends come with me to help carry my table and books. I nearly, and quite literally, blew across the street trying to get inside the venue with my folding table. I’m sure it was quite a sight to behold in the dusky snowfall. Some random lady with a folding table getting blown across the sidewalk like a slapstick comedy routine. Lol.
Once we got inside and set up, several people approached us looking for information and resources. I first learned about AVFTI because my younger sister used to work with the founder; then they really began to take off when they partnered with Warped Tour for a few seasons. I thought it was a fairly well known organization in my own little borro of Indianapolis but as we began to talk to people I slowly discovered that it, in fact, is NOT that largely known and there is a great lack of local resources for survivors to come forward and begin their healing process. It tugged on my heart strings so much that I’ve decided to become a volunteer with AVFTI in an official capacity. Stay tuned for how you, friends and fans, can participate as well. Lots more events in the works for 2019. I’m looking forward to them!
Thanks again so much to everyone who came out and helped me make my latest event a success. See you again soon!
